I’ll admit it. I feel guilty. I live in California, and my father (who now lives alone because my mother passed away) lives in Pennsylvania. Growing up though, I feel like I did everything right. I was a great student, a star athlete. I worked two jobs. I even went to college in a town about 15 miles away, just so I could stay close to my parents.
I was recently offered an amazing job opportunity. Unfortunately, I had to relocate. Because I did everything right growing up, I told myself it was time to make me happy and do something for myself. But, with my dad aging; this choice was really difficult.
My husband was the one who told me about Megcares. One of his friends set up the system in his parents’ house and said he’s never made a better purchase. After scanning the website, asking questions, and doing some research; I too decided Megcares was the right call for my situation.
I can monitor dad’s activity around the house, 24 hours a day; 7 days a week. If he doesn’t answer my call, I don’t have to worry about sending anyone to check on him, or stress about the fact that I’m not there. I can pull up his movement history, view if he’s opened one of his doors to go out on a walk, or run to the store. I can even see if he went in the bathroom. I don’t have to violate his privacy with cameras, because the wireless sensors do all the work!
If you’re in the same boat as me, it is possible to care for a parent across the country. With a resource like Megcares, you can keep track of your parents even if you’re not physically there (and not feel guilty about it)!
